Homeless Youths The three studies of homeless youths cited in Chapter 1 Boston, New York, and Toronto each reported on shelter populations. The treatment of health problems is complicated by all the psychosocial problems experienced by homeless individuals and families. William Breakey in press has identified characteristics of homeless people that affect the provision of treatment and the planning of health care services: Daily Activities —Some homeless people live under circumstances that pose particular problems for developing a treatment plan. One issue frequently raised as a result of the Johnson-Pew projects is whether it is necessary to develop separate health care systems for the domiciled and for the homeless.
